Chemical cleaning involves an evaluation of the work to be carried out, seeking the best technique, both engineering and chemistry, to achieve the total cleaning of plants and / or equipment.

WCS performs chemical cleaning in all types of industrial plants: Chemistry, Petroleum, Pharmaceuticals, Food, Automotive, Aeronautics, Energy Production, Refineries, etc.

Chemical cleaning is normally performed on equipment such as:

  • plate or tube heat exchangers
  • steam generators (traditional boilers, HRSG, supercritical, etc.)
  • cement plant
  • cooling towers
  • reactors
  • pipes in general
  • process equipment.

The goal of chemical cleaning is to remove from the circuits impurities present that can cause problems during the start-up and operation phase of the plants. Such impurities are represented by: oxides, residual rolling products, debris, oils and organic matter.

The removal of impurities is achieved by the use of chemical solutions that lead to the dissolution of impurities or, at least, their detachment. The fluid current then provides its drag and is therefore transported to the drain both during flushing and discharge of cleaning solution operation.

Pre-operational chemical cleaning

Preoperative chemical cleaning is part of preparatory plant commissioning operations and is designed to remove any residual material from system due to assembly activities.

Chemical Cleaning prepares plants for normal operation, eliminating the risk of damage to associated machines or equipment.

A suitable preoperative chemical cleaning, with surface treatment of the metal at the chemical and physical level, is essential to avoid damage to the instruments and auxiliary equipment present and at the same time facilitate the running of the same.

Chemical cleaning for performance recovery

Water Side

Chemical cleaning are often used during the maintenance of industrial plant as a normal maintenance practice.  In this case it is intended to restore the original operating conditions, standardize the parameters of the thermal exchange and avoid corrosive phenomena that could seriously damage the plant drastically reducing the lifespan of the systems themselves.

Chemical cleaning, in case of performance recovery, should be designed according to the type of residue present, plant operating time, chemical-physical and chemical-metallic characteristics of pipes and consider other parameters such as corrosion, flow rates, etc.

To ensure that the operation is adequate, effective and not harmful, WCS prefers, whenever possible, to make chemical and metallic analyses on samples of the surfaces before the intervention

Cleaning simulations are carried out on tube samples taken from the most representative areas of the system, monitoring chemical and physical parameters including corrosion, thus avoiding further damage.

With pre and post-cleaning endoscopic exams, you can find a complete picture of the effectiveness of the cleaning itself and the performance recovery.

Fume Side

During the life of the equipment, a deposit is created on external pipes surface, consisting of combustion residues containing a variety of substances that do not drag with the same combustion flow and that affects the thermal exchange of the equipment itself, compromising its efficiency.

WCS has specific equipment to reactivate an optimal exchange conditions and at the same time a significant economic-environmental recovery for the customer.
